The Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the city’s leading exhibition and conference centre, begins a major transformation in 2015. This world-class and well respected facility, which hosts major international events and trade shows, is being readied for an in depth modernisation.
An iconic place in the capital
Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the largest exhibition park in France, plays host every year to such prestigious trade fairs as the Agricultural Show and the Foire de Paris, as well as, on alternate years, the famed Paris Motor Show. These are just some of the consumer and professional salons which take place here all year round. Created in 1923, the complex consists at the moment of eight pavilions, offering around 220 000 m² of exhibition space.
An ambitious modernisation
The ten year renovation programme will involve the modernisation of the pavilions and their facades, and the construction of squares, cafes, a new conference space and a hotel. The Park will also be redesigned for better environmental integration, with extensive planting of gardens and green spaces. A budget of EUR 500 million has been set aside to effect this transformation, which is scheduled to finish in 2014. Dominique Perrault, Christian de Portzamparc, Jean Nouvel and Valode and Pistre form the core team of architects selected to work on this prestigious project. The renovation will take place in successive phases, thereby allowing the exhibition centre to continue to schedule events.
